Nanosonic Mill

A high flow circulation type of media mill which adopted supersonic wave, super-critical technology, and beads altogether to achieve ultra-fine dispersion.

Nanosonic Mill is a complete enclosed type bead mill equipped with ultrasonic wave device.

Utilizing the high circulation flow, Nanosonic Mill can disperse sophisticated functional pigment and achieve nano level close to the primary particle dispersion without utilizing micro bead.

Using ultra fine wet grinding machine, there’re several difficulties such as reaggregation due to particulate fracture which disturbs dispersing (wet grinding) effectiveness. In order to overcome those problems, we held a joint R&D with the National Institute for Material Science (NIMS) and developed the “Nanosonic Mill”

Structure

The rotor is hollow cylinder and its surface is designed with special spike pattern. The rotor has several openings to allow bead circulation flow. Inside the rotor, a bead separating device and an ultrasonic wave device are equipped.

Nanosonic Mill is utilizing two mechanisms of dispersion, combination of shearing/impact force by beads and cavity crushing force by ultrasonic wave.

The rotation of rotor gives radial circulation movement to the bead and the slurry separated through screen radiated with the ultrasonic wave for a short time before discharge.

Features

■Ultra-fine Dispersion

Combination of dispersion energy by shear and impact of beads generated by rotation of rotor, and inpulse from crushing of cavity bubble generated by ultrasonic works for microparticulation and improves dispersion performance (gloss etc.).

■Particle size distribution

Unlike a conventional grinding machine, where short pass causes broad residential time distribution, high flow rate recirculation of Nanosonic Mill gives a sharp particle size distribution.

■Storage Stability

In order to obtain excellent degree of slurry dispersion, factors such as 1.)wetting, 2.)dispersion, and 3.)stabilization are very critical. Occasionally, re-aggregation due to dispersion influences properties of slurry, however, Nanosonic Mill is able to provide soft-dispersion and combined with wettability improvement by the effect of ultrasonic irradiation contributes for storage stability.

■Applicable Viscosity Range

The range may vary depending on the size and material of the beads. For example, 0.5mm Zirconia bead is applicable for 1,200 mPa.s, while 0.1mm Zirconia bead is applicable for 50 mPa.s.

■Beads Separation Method

Screen is used to separate bead from slurry. The wide filtering area gives high flow rate and multi-pass circulation.

■Cooling Efficiency

While using ultrasonic wave device, the irradiation time is short due to high flow rate recirculation. The specially designed cooling system on the vessel enabled sophisticated high cooling efficiency.

■Other Options

Ceramic type is available as an option.Explosion-Proof (Air Purge, internal pressure explosion proof) is also available.
